Not a Lot to Say

I guess I really don't have a whole lot to say tonight. I know - how strange for me. I also don't have any pictures. Well, I do. I love LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of pictures. We got Prissy a nice camera for her birthday and the child takes some of the most awesome pictures. But, I haven't really had time to even download the pictures.

We've just been really busy. Hubby had softball draft last night. He was in charge of the whole shabang. He had to get all player rankings ready and the coaches for the teams and all the "stuff" that goes along with it.

I have been busy preparing forms and letters to the school district asking for use of the facilities. So - we've been doing lots of parent sports stuff.

****

I have my food allergy test tomorrow. I'm a little worried about it. They also took me off of my super awesome inhaler for the past week, and I've been slightly wheezy for days. I'm such a dork.

****

Prissy has a baton tournament this weekend. We will drive down on Friday night and stay in a hotel. Her tournament is on Saturday which also happens to be my birthday. The only bummer of it being my birthday is that we have to get up so early. I'm not the brightest person in the morning.

I need to go catch up on my google reader - I had almost 200 unread blogs. YIKES!

Just Do It!

My daughter is on a baton twirling team. This team has the "Big" girls and the "Little" girls. The team was started by the mother's of the Big girls - and there is a full parent run board. I have been Vice President for the last two years. Unfortunately, all of the Big girls are graduating this year. And there aren't many Little girls. And because of Prissy's "potential" and love of the sport - I have been tagged as taking over the president of the board next year when all the big girl parents leave next year. This has been stressing me out for quite some time.

There are a couple of problems: There aren't many Little girls. And it's about an hour away from our house. So, it's not like we can really recruit anyone. No one but crazy me wants to drive all that way (it's close to my work and the kids old school.)

So, I was thinking about how to increase membership. And I thought it would be cool to have a baton twirling camp. We could send out fliers to all the kids (through the schools) - and we could have a baton twirling camp that meets for 1 hour for 4 weeks. The kids would learn basic twirling skills and a routine. They would perform their routine at the end of their last week. Then, the Little Girls and Big Girls would perform their routines and the girls that had solos and pairs would perform so the campers could see what being on our team would be like and what a competitive team looks like. Then, we would let them know that we were starting a begining team in the Fall and here is all the information - and we would love for them to join. And I'm going to do it where I live. I'm making a potentially team killing decision to move it to my city so I can actually grow the team.

I know I'm getting myself in really deep - but, I'm feeling quite confident and SO FREAKING EXCITED! I'm just going to do it - I'm going to put on a baton twirling camp to increase membership in our competitive twirling team. So there!

Bike Ride

Today my son and I went on a bike ride. It was gorgeous out - low 60s and cool. I haven't ridden my bike in YEARS. So, we pumped up the tires, and I was going to wear Bubba's old helmet that was too small for him - but I found mine - buried with my bike.

The thing was covered in dust. But, the chain looked well oiled.

We were just going to ride around the block, but we were having so much fun that we just kept going. We weren't out long, but we had a really nice time just peddling around.

Long line

I'm standing in line at walmart. Figured it was long enough that I
could write a blog entry.

The place is packed. I guess everyone realizes how cheap it is now -
especially given the crappy state of the economy.

Rightnow I'm listening to a toddler throw a major fit while an entire
loud large family is invading my personal space.

Only two people left in front of me now. I'm gonna try not to have a
panic attack.

Friday Night

Tonight - Prissy is at a school function for the older kids - they are watching a movie and eating pizza. Bubba was feeling a little left out so we went to a local pizza place. They usually have soft serve ice cream, but they didn't tonight - and since we were sans-Prissy - we decided to go to the yogurt store (cool place where you can pull yogurt and then there are like a billion toppings to choose from.) It's not a safe place to take Prissy due to her peanut allergy - so it was a special treat for Bubba.

Rather Boring

To update from yesterday - I had my allergy test. They did several little scratch tests. And then they did like 25 shots. DAMN! That's all I have to say. Just don't touch me.

Today was environmental allergies. I'm offically allergic to GRASSES! (which is why I prefer my children participate in INDOOR sports - I LOVE BATON!). I'm also allergic to mold - which explains why I start sneezing at night and why I sneeze when it rains. Here is what I'm allergic to:

I'm also allergic to dust mites, oak trees, rag weed, sweet beet (??) and something else odd. I'm no longer allergic to dogs. Which I find weird - but, it makes sense - I can go over to friends houses with dogs. Of course, I'm not allergic to cats.
That's all - how boring.

Allergy Test

I have the first of two allergy tests tomorrow. Can I tell you that I'm dreading it a little bit? Ok, I'm dreading it A LOT!

Tomorrow is the environmental allergy test - the last time I had this I was probably 12 years old. I think I ended up being allergic to everything and I was absolutely miserable and itchy and uncomfortable. However, when I moved from Kansas to the Sacramento Valley my allergies went away. So, I've always just said I was allergic to Kansas. However, the Sacramento Valley is supposed to be notoriously bad for pollen allergies.

However, my allergist told me with the symptoms that I described he thought I was more sensitive to molds than to pollens. So, I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Then next week - I have my food test - I'm really really not looking forward to that either. My doctor gave me an epipen (FOR ME!!!) when I saw him. He was showing me how to use it, and then I pulled out my trainer and told him I was quite familiar with it and often taught other people how to use it. :D He was not impressed and continued to teach me. Whatever. I thought that it was funny that I had a trainer and he didn't.

****

Right now - hubby has been engulfed in softball board stuff. He has been putting the teams together and has been putting 4-5 hours a night and then at least 12-14 hours both weekend days. I jokingly say I'm a softball widow. I don't think he knew exactly what he was getting into when he joined the board. But, I also think the other members might be taking a bit of advantage of him - because he actually DOES stuff. But, shhhh, don't tell him I said that.

Cat Question -

Does anyone know if cats can get dementia?

I think my cat may have some sort of dementia. The cat I'm talking about is Pookie - she is 14 years old. She has been hiding under beds and desks for the past 12 years. She is not a social cat and never has been. The only moving thing that she is not afraid of is me - and that's only if I move slowly. I don't talk about her much. I got her "used" when she was just over a year old.

She was my sweetie pie when I was living by myself in California. I needed her a lot when I was by myself. She is really special to me. When I'm alone she always runs to me (typically in the bathroom.) And she is so so gentle - would never ever ever bite or scratch.

She has had somewhat of a hard life.

  • When I got her, she went into heat - even though I had the paperwork showing that she was spayed. Poor baby had to be RE-spayed, they had left an overy inside of her.
  • She has moved across the country twice. From California to Kansas and then from Kansas back to California.
  • She was fighting with our other MUCH bigger cat when he chased her into a plate glass window and she went through the window losing a couple of teeth and needing stitches in her front paw. (This all happened when I was on bedrest with my daughter - I rushed Pookie to the vet while contracting all the way.)
  • She was moved to ANOTHER house (our current house).
  • The MUCH bigger cat had to be put to sleep - and she lost her playmate.
  • She got another kitten to deal with (Oreo).
  • She got ANOTHER kitten to deal with (Jasmine.)

Anyway, like I said, she's not much of a social cat. Lately however - she is Miss Social. She is hanging out with us in the evenings. I found her sleeping on the bed today with Jasmine. She doesn't take off running from the younger ones. Occasionally she hisses at one of them - but doesn't run.

This is a cat that my mom was afraid was going to die while we were in Italy because she is just so skinny and scared. She has started gaining some weight and eats - A LOT.

It's so unusual, I am wondering if she doesn't have a touch of dementia. She forgot that she is a scaredy cat. And that she forgot that she already ate. She forgot that she doesn't like the other two cats. She just wants to be pet and loved and cuddled.

Weird...

So, is feline dementia a real thing?

What We've Been Up To

Well, I figured I would give you a week in pictures. This has been quite the filled week.

Here is Prissy on her actual birthday - she got some warm socks (which she wanted SO SO much... I'm clueless about this.)

One day when we were in Italy we ventured over to Switzerland - it was one of my favorite days there. This particular monument kept our attention for quite a while.

Monster House

Bubba's 2nd grade teacher often sends home stories, poems, and other odds and ends for me to type up. Today, Bubba brought home stories that they wrote before Christmas. Most of the stories were about a page - and they talked about things like snowmen, friends, family - you know, stuff like that.

Well, I came to Bubba's story and it was really thick - 8 pages!! My pride swelled - Bubba really worked hard on his story - it's really long. Then, I read it.... Now, I think I need to find a good child psychologist - right after he makes his first million playing a gig.

The Killer Monster House
By Bubba

The killer monster house had killer destruction! Live sharks, sword throws, spiked floor, stink bomb room, flame frisbee, electricity shocker room, and finally the death slide to death!
It took us 6 years to put it together. The first person was Freddy. He was so scared that he wet his pants. He hid under a bed. We were both wondering why there was a bed in the basement. Freddy paid us 9 billion dollars. My dad came down. He found Freddy under the bed. He didn’t make Freddy pay back his money. Freddy almost died from the sharks.
Clint and I cleaned up the mess in the basement. Clint went home. I got rich. I bought a limo that was black. It had a hot tub, a pool and a TV. Then I bought a mansion. It was huge. It even had an elevator. And a chocolate river that was 10 billion yards long. It also had servants and golden doorknobs and inside a hot tub and pool. The house was 9 million feet long. It has a flat screen TV!
The computer was huge, it is the size of a big TV! The bed was as big as a school. We could invite more than 9 thousand people. In the backyard I built a Ferris Wheel. I could make more than 20 trees. It was 900 stories tall! My room was as big as 3 stories tall! Then Clint came over, he saw my house then he fainted. When he woke up, I asked if he wanted to go for a bike ride. He said yes. We went bike riding for 2 hours. Then it was time for band practice. I play guitar. I am really good. It took me one year to make me this good. I cannot play without my pick. When we were done practicing I watched a little TV! Then me and Clint went to our gig! We got more than 9 billion fans.
After the gig, Clint went home. We both went to sleep. Next day was a school day. It was very short. After school Clint went home with me. Me and Clint made up a new song for Christmas. It took us ten minutes. Then Clint went home. It took us 10 hours to put up the Christmas lights. Then the next day was Christmas day. I got more than 60 presents. They were the best presents ever. It took me an hour or two to open my gifts. Then it took me three hours to just get the gifts up to my room. We have 9 million stairs. Clint had good gifts too. He had 40 or 50!
The End!

New Carpet

Here are a few pictures of our carpet installation today. The downstairs is done, as well as the stairs themselves. They will do all three bedrooms tomorrow. It looks so "bright" and "shiny" and smells like a new car. Oh, so soft and plush and wonderful!

This is our front room - which will actually have furniture in it on Saturday.

Here is the new pad for the carpeting in our family room.

Here is our family room with it's new carpet. AHHH!!! OHHHH!!!!

Kicking Stuff

I'm headed off to Taekwondo in just a few minutes. It always provides such a good release. There is something about kicking and punching bags that really helps get all that stress out.

Tomorrow our carpet comes - hubby is totally stressed out about it (and he's not even going to be here.) I'm sure it will all go just fine.

Anyway - here is a picture - just because (I should have removed the red-eye - but I just don't have time tonight):

Anxious

Both of by computers just crashed so I'll just use my trusty iPhone.

I'm kind of anxious tonight. I guess it's just lingering stress from
the past weekend. It's sort of a "when is something bad gonna happen"
feeling. *shrug*. Although, we are getting new carpeting and
furniture this week - I should be thrilled. Instead I'm just anxious.

I had some things that I needed to take care of for work tonight -
that might add a bit of stress. Plus, my computers are all freaked
out. I should mention, however, that I am really enjoying my work
right now - I can honestly say, I don't think that I've ever typed
that in this blog before. Yes, I'm enjoying my work.

Dang I'm Tired -

After baking 2 cakes, and 3 batches of rice krispy treats in the last 3 days - I'm really really tired.

This is a big week for us - we're getting our carpet installed and we are getting our new furniture. Hubby has finished all of the painting and is a bit stressed out about the carpeting (specifically packing everything up so the installers can move the furniture.) I'm sure everything will go just fine.

However, tonight, I'm beat.

I think that I'll just relax - cause I have to get up early tomorrow to go to work... Ugh....

It's Over!

Oh, today is over. What a busy day. A birthday party and a basketball game. The birthday party alone was enough to knock anyone out. We upgraded when we got there, so we got more jumping room and a bigger party room. We had more people show up than RSVP'd. Well, actually - there were two sets of girls with the same name and I think that was the problem. We had just enough of everything (including cake). Here are a few random pictures from this week and from the party.

Hubby painted our front room (like the color?) The kitties were very interested in the ladder. That blue carpet? Almost history!

With Prissy's nut allergy - we always have to make homemade cakes. I thought this year's cake turned out pretty good.

Almost Ready...

I'm almost ready for Prissy's party tomorrow. We had a couple more RSVPs today (YIKES!), but I ordered more pizzas and sodas today. They said that we would need to have the kids in the party room in shifts if we were over a certain number. We are one over the maximum number. I'm thinking that Hubby can just take Bubba someplace else for a little bit while the girls eat pizza and cake and open presents.

I always stress out about the kids birthday parties. Totally and completely. They always work out just fine. But, I so want it to be wonderful for the kids. Ugh...

Anyway, I got the party favors and they are all ready to go (I put them in little popcorn containers - how cute is that?) I baked the cake, but it still needs to be frosted, which I will likely do tomorrow.

I think I'm just going to have a glass of wine - call in Chinese food and relax the rest of the night. Why not?

Thursday, January 8, 2009

Uh oh...

Prissy has her birthday party on Saturday. Yay! I was planning on 10-12 kids. We are going to this place called Sky Zone - which is just basically a warehouse filled with trampolines. Pretty cool. Anyway, we have a private jump area for an hour, then the small party room.

We invited 20 people - I expected about 50% of them to RSVP. I was worried that there would be even less kids because I didn't even give a full weeks notice. Shoot at the other school, without the full week - we'd be lucky to get 7 or 8. At this school - birthday parties are a big deal. So far, only two people have declined and 15 have accepted. Ummm... I'm not sure we're going to have enough room. I'm really really really worried about it.

I'm sure it will be fine, and the girls can sqeeze and cram.

On the flip side - I'm super excited that so many girls are coming to Prissy's 10th birthday. Ten is a huge birthday. I even remember turning 10. Anyway, I made rice krispy treats for her to take to school tomorrow. I will make the cake tomorrow night and the party is on Saturday. Sunday is her real actual birthday. I think it will be a very packed birthday weekend.

I found this picture on my iPhone. I think the kids must have taken
it. Weird picture - but the composition is pretty good considering it
was taken by my phone.

Taekwondo

Another update I haven't given in awhile is about Taekwondo. We test on the 24th of January for our next belt - which is a black belt recommended. It's not a black belt - it's the one right before it. I'm already ready for testing - so it should be good.

Then - it's the preparation for our black belt testing. I'm going to be testing for my black belt in just a few months. Awesome! It has taken me a LONG time to get here. WOOHOO!

iPhone Update

I haven't written recently about my iphone. I got a 3G iPhone for Christmas - and it is just so freaking cool.

I have to tell you about a cool app - it's amazon's free app. Today, I was sitting at baton and the other mom's and I were talking about having birthday's around the holidays. Prissy's birthday is this Sunday and it always sneaks up on me. I focus so much on Christmas, and then I realize I have so much work to do to prepare for Prissy's birthday. I was telling this other mom that we have several family birthdays.... Ummm.... OH NO! I had forgotten about my nephew's birthday, which happens to be the same day as Prissy's. OH NO! OH NO! OH NO!!! I knew what I wanted to get him (found it at Christmas time - I just thought that I would get it after Christmas was over.)

So, I pull up the amazon app on my iPhone. Search for the toy, put it in my cart - Amazon has all the addresses I usually send to - I select my SIL, choose gift wrap options and WAHLAH! Done! Gift will be there by Thursday. All done in less than 10 minutes.

I love my iPhone, I love Amazon. Not too many years ago, I would have to worry like crazy, and had to go shopping on my lunch hour, wrap the dang thing in my car, take it to the post office and pay a small fortune to get it there in time and still not make it back to work in time. Technology rocks my world!

Back to Work Tomorrow

At least I get to work from home!

So Cold!

It's so cold here today. Shiver... (OMG - I'm such a Californian - I'm complaining about the cold when it gets under 35!)

I got a lot done today - got my oil changed, went to Taekwondo, filled out Prissy's birthday invitations, got Prissy's birthday presents, went to Bubba's first basketball practice/game. I just wish it wasn't so cold...

Again? Yes Again!!

Ok, so, I'm not taking a blogging day off yet - because I HAVE SOME NEWS!!!

We bought some new furniture for our front room!! Ok, so - our carpet is almost 20 years old and blue. It's not pretty. It's actually stained and crushed and really not very pretty. So, we got carpeting (for our whole house.)

We also decided to actually furnish our front room (I think it's called a living room in most houses?) It's always been empty except for a bookshelf and a treadmill. It's where Prissy practices her baton (although, it's not quite big enough or high enough for her to practice in anymore.) But, it's also where Bubba and Prissy roughhouse and play catch and just mess around. But, it's HORRIBLY embarrassing when people come over and we have this big bare room. Plus, it's not very useful as a real room.

So, we bought furniture (there are some amazing sales going on right now). But, since we are getting furniture and new carpeting in a few weeks - we should probably paint it, right? So, we are currently paining the room, just a little bit darker. It looks SO GOOD so far. Very calming.

I also finally (FINALLY) called a landscaper - and we are now having plans drawn up for our front yard. You know this post about me not getting anything done over vacation? Well, I feel much better now. I go back to work on Monday and there is a TON of stuff that is at least in motion now. Yay! So, I'm feeling more accomplished, I can go back to work and feel rested and relaxed. Yay me!

A Look Back on 2008

I stole this meme from Chaos Theory. I know I said I wasn't going to blog today - but I simply can't help myself.

January 5th - Well - we're starting to return to normal.

February 2nd - I'm such suck.

March 1st - Can I tell that spring has begun because everything is in bloom? No...

April 5th - Wow - what a whirlwind day!

May 5th - My 100 things to do before I die list

June 2nd - Oh my dear Grill - How I love thee

July 5th - Prissy and I have decided that we are going to train and run a 5K.

August 2nd - In all honestly, this has been a really really horrible week.

September 1st - We have been living in our house for over 8 and a half years.

October 1st - Today was a classic Hecticmom Hectic day.

November 1st - I just got home from a friend's open house.

December 1st - I think that I mentioned last week that I was going to start my new Sparkpeople diet.

I think this little meme was more fun for me than for you to read - but whatever, I have clearly showing that I'm a blogging addict and now I am unable to take a day off.
